The 2020 AG Driedaagse Brugge-De Panne was won by a true Flandrian,  Yves Lampaert (Deceuninck-Quick Step) who fought the wind and weather to take the victory.

Rain and wind turned AG Driedaagse Brugge-De Panne into an elimination race. Shortly after the start, the peloton was split into several groups. Caleb Ewan, Oliver Naesen, Sep Vanmarcke and Michal Kwiatkowski were soon relegated to the rear and did not finish.

A lead group of 24, including the future winner, took shape just before the halfway mark. In this select group were Asgreen, Lampaert, Sénéchal, Van Lerberghe, Tim Declercq, Benjamin Declercq, Drucker, Trentin, Van Keirsbulck, Degenkolb, De Buyst, Frison, Walscheid, Bystrom, Küng, Lawless, Laporte, Van der Poel, Merlier, Krieger, Rickaert, Havik, Hofstetter and Scully.

Due to the deterioration of the weather, the jury of marshals decided along the way to reduce the race from 202 to 188 km, in consultation with the organization and the teams.

Van der Poel in the Ditch
Mathieu Van der Poel was a victim of the extemity of the wind. At 16 km from the finish, the Dutch champion was literally thrown into the embankment. After regaining his senses, the recent winner of the Tour of Flanders withdrew form the race.

Omnipresent Deceuninck-Quick Step
At the time of Van der Poel's crash, the leading group was still 13 riders. The selection continued in the final 10 kilometers. With 4 out of the 8 riders from Deceuninck-Quick Step (Asgreen, Lampaert, Van Lerberghe and Tim Delcercq) was particularly well represented. Alpecin-Fenix counted for its part on Merlier and Rickaert, Degenkolb (Lotto-Soudal) and Trentin (CCC) completing the group.

Deceuninck-Quick Step took full advantage of its numerical superiority. Declercq placed an attack, in vain. Lampaert's attempt turned out to be better. The 29-year-old Flandrien quickly widened a gap of 20 seconds and then held on to win after a solo effort of 6 km.

Tim Declercq gave Deceuninck-Quick Step a double by securing second place, also solo. Tim Merlier (Alpecin - Fenix) then won the sprint for third place ahead of Degenkolb and Drucker, back from a group of pursuers. Trentin, Van Lerberghe, Küng, Asgreen and Rickaert also slipped into the top 10.

Guillaume Boivin (Israel Start - Up Nation) was the only Canadian finisher in 33rd at 3:21 back.
