Finistere Final

We do not have final results for the Tour du Finistere, but Val Davidge sends a report that Kim Langton finished 5th overall and Anne Samplonius 11th.

Keith and I have just returned from the World Cup Track Event in Trexlertown. It has
to be the very best three days of racing we have ever seen. With 36 countries competing, and pretty well every world and Olympic track champion present, the racing was absolutely awesome. The facility is tremendous - T-town should be very proud - and they did everything in world class fashion.

Hats off to the Canadian team. We were proud to be there and to see them ride.
Considering the limited facilities and climate we have here, we should be VERY proud of our track riders who are in some cases the best in the world.

Brian Walton won the Points Race with his head and it was a real treat to watch this so very talented and clever rider. Bravo Brian - we were proud of you.

But - it was not just the stars of the team that shone. Our developing riders deserve much credit. Mandy Poitras put in a tremendous pursuit to finish 6th - one place behind Le Longo. Doug Baron was in a great position to gain World Cup points in the Kierin when he was brought down in a high speed crash in the last lap which must have been very disappointing to the three riders involved as well as painful.

To all of the team, including those I do not know and recognise, congratulations.

My special mention, though, has to go to Lori Anne Muenzer. We all know she was Cuban National Champion, we all know she is Canadian National Champion but we did not know how she would fare in World Cup competition. Lori hasn't even begun to realize how strong she is yet and she still has a few things to learn about the technical aspects of sprinting, making one or two tactical errors that cost her, but still finishing fifth in a star studded field, one place behind Tanya Dubnicoff.

For a while, Lori Anne was the fastest qualifier and she ended up as fifth fastest. She was put out in the First Round but fought her way back handily into the Quarter Finals through the Repechage. After a spirited effort in the Quarters she was left to combat the 5th - 8th place sprint for World Cup points. We were hoarse afterwards from shouting for her. She won nicely and was a very happy woman. Well done Lori Anne - those trips to Montreal so many eons ago are beginning to pay off and we feel proud to have been part of your early times on the track.

Good luck to all the Canadian Track team wherever your next event is. You are all tremendous ambassadors for Canadian cycling.
