It is not official yet, but next week the UCI and race organizers will announce that the first round of the Mountain Bike World Cup, a Downhill in Maribor, Slovenia, will be postponed from its scheduled date of April 24-25. The delay in announcing the postponement is due to ongoing discussions on when to replacement date will be. It will almost certainly be in August, and quite likely will be the lead-in event to the world championships (Val di Sole, Italy, on August 25-29).
Slovenia, after posting some of the lowest coronavirus infection rates in Europe for the first wave, has been hit heavily in the second wave, with one of the worst rates in Europe. However, they have one of the stronger vaccination rates; ahead of Canada.
