This weekend marks the first race for Ontario riders wishing to be selected to the Canada Games team. There has been some confusion over the age limit for the Games. The following information is taken from the Technical Package and is correct:

Male cyclists must be under 20 years of age and at least 16 years of age as of December 31, 2000. Female cyclists must be under 22 years of age and at least 16 years of age as of December 31, 2000.

70 starters

The handicap group had a one minute advantage but were caught within four laps. This is a very technical circuit and the scratch group were going through the turns much faster than their less-experienced rivals.

The wind was also making the race tough and both bunches split up fairly early on. By lap lap six, the break of Cockburn, Rego, Hansen and Traini was well established, with a chase group of ten riders losing a couple of seconds every lap thereafter.

The main group of twenty riders eventually was lapped by the break and the rest of the riders were spread all around the circuit. In fact, it was one of the most split up Midweek Club events in the last four years.

No doubt, the riders will improve their pack skills rapidly on the Hershey circuit and we'll see much smoother progress in the coming weeks.

Thanks to Peter Hurley for marshalling and cone pick up. For next week, riders please put your numbers on the RIGHT side covering your jersey pocket.
