Intersports Race Report - Tour of the Gila Stage 3

Team Rona's Genevieve Jeanson clearly demonstrated the she is one of the pre-eminent female riders in the world as she decimated the field today, in the 2001 Tour of the Gila. The Inner Loop Road Race rolled over 72 miles of New Mexico's most technical and hilly roads all the while blanketed by strong cross and head winds. However, the hills and wind, did nothing to slowdown what is the Jeanson express. After contending with a short 15 mile prelude, the real climbing began and this is where Jeanson began her real display. Quickly the Race Leader distanced herself from the field, leaving top riders Lyne Bessette and Kim Bruckner of Saturn, as well as Intersport's trio of Emery, Phillips and Matthes in her wake. Though Bessette and soon after Bruckner and Katrina Berger of 800.com would fight valiantly to keep Jeanson at a respectable distance, their strength was no match for the young Canadian phenom. In the end, Jeanson would ride nearly 60 miles by herself and win by 2 minutes over Bessette who in turn finished 30 seconds ahead of Berger and Bruckner. Intersport's Emery would win the group sprint some 7 minutes behind the winner.

On May 13th, I am organising the Gary Lund Classic in Victoria, BC which is a qualifying event for the Canada Games.
