Mississauga Midweek Series

These very popular midweek races are on again for "98 The city of Mississauga is allowing us to extend the circuit to 5 kilometers if we can get police assistance, so we are negotiating with the Peel Auxiliaries. The start has been moved to the west side of the circuit, so parking will be easier. We are also providing washroom facilities and the city is loaning a rink shack for shelter and storage.

Races will start in mid-April and continue until the end of August. There will be a season finale on September 13th. (Sunday) which will be run under a silver sanction and have a hefty prize list. There will also be a short, mid-week cyclo-cross series in September.

The big news for beginning riders and third category down is a Monday series of criteriums and road races in the same Matheson East location. These will be preceded by novice clinics sponsored by Racer Sportif who are presently spec‚ing bikes for 9 to 12 year-olds. Coaching will be done by members of the Missisauga Cycling Club and other riders who normally treat Monday as a rest day.

Ontario Road Commissaire Courses and Meetings

1. The spring meeting of the Ontario College of Commissaires will be held on Sunday March 15th at 10.00a.m. at 2283, Argentia Road, Unit 14, Mississauga. The meeting will include a segment of the Level 2 Commissaire Course and the 1998 Race Assignments.

2. A second Level 1 Commissaire Course is planned for Sundays March 1st and 8th at the Ontario Sports Centre, Don Mills from 9a.m. to 4p.m. each day. Instructor will be Peter McCaffery.

Cost for the course is $30 which can be paid on arrival. As before, if a group of people attend the course from one club or area and are willing to reproduce their own handouts, cost for the second and other members of the group is reduced to $15. There are a limited number of ORC sponsored places for women who demonstrate an ability and willingness to become involved in the Provincial Women's Team program as Team Manager.
