Global Relay Bridge the Gap, Karol-Ann Canuel & Sharke Coaching have joined forces to put together a training camp targeting Junior and U23 Canadian female athletes.
The camp will take place in Gatineau (QC) from June 2nd until June 7th and will be combined with the Tour de Gatineau, a race included in the new Canadian Cup ranking. The weekend will include the British Grand Prix criterium on Saturday and the 100% women's ride on Sunday.
Shawn Clarke, coach and founder of Sharke Coaching, and Karol-Ann Canuel, ex-professional cyclist world champion and two-time Olympian, will be leading this training camp.
The camp will focus on:
● Learn essential race skills and tactics
● Apply race skills and tactics in a race environment
● Show young female athletes they are a part of a larger cycling community
"[We want to] create a high value camp by adding coached training days around established crits and a women-only community event. This combination of racing days and coached training days will allow us to work on, test, assess and refine racing skills within the camp for maximum impact," says Shawn Clarke
Why This Camp, Why These Athletes?
We've seen that as a Junior woman in Canada the top athletes are rewarded for strength over tactical nuance. Once they hit the senior ranks, team racing, tactics and conserving energy in the pack become super important to success. Only the riders never had to do any of these things. Camps like this will bring together strong Juniors and U23 riders to teach them the building blocks of what is needed to successfully race in an elite peloton with a team.
