Canadian Olympic bronze medal rower Caileigh Filmer will join the American road team Virginia's Blue Ridge TWENTY24 for the 2023 season, the team announced on Wednesday. Filmer, who won a bronze medal at the Tokyo Games in the coxless pair rowing competition (as well as a world title in 2018), and recently switched to cycling, finishing fifth at the 2022 Road Nationals in the Time Trial.
In a team release, Filmer said, "It’s so encouraging that VBR TWENTY24 allows me to work and pursue my passion as a coach outside of my professional cycling career, too." Filmer, is currently training in Taiwan, where she works as a high school rowing coach. "I didn't join this sport just to go to the Olympics and medal. I love challenging myself, and I really like the community in cycling and the lifestyle outside the race results."
