Canada's Nathan Clement won Canada's second world title of the world championships on Wednesday, taking the rainbow jersey - his first - in the Men's T1 time trial. Shelley Gautier added to her extensive collection of world championship medals with a bronze in the women's T1.
Canadians came close in other races, with the Team Relay squad finishing fourth in mountain bike, and Charles Moreau was also fourth in the Men's H3 time trial. Fifth place results went to Matthew Kinnie in Men's H2 time trial and Jean William Prévost in the semifinals of BMX Freestyle Flatland, which puts him into Thursday's Final. Mathias Guillemette had a career-high sixth in the Men's Points Race on the last day of Track competition, while Kara Douville was ninth in the Women's H4 time trial. Louis-Albert Corriveau-Jolin finished 12th in the Men's T2 time trial.
Michael Leonard, the National Under-23 time trial champion, was tenth in the, Under-23 Men's time trial, and Maggie Coles-Lyster survived a crash to finish 15th overall in the Women's Omnium. Coles-Lyster was seventh in the Scratch Race, 13th in the Elimination Race, 14th in the Points Race and 20th in the Tempo Race. Tristan Jussaume finished 26th in the Under-23 time trial.
In the Team Relay, Canada came within one second of the bronze medal. The team race in the order of Gunnar Holmgren (Elite Men), Owen Clark (U23 Men), Emilly Johnston (U23 Women), Marin Lowe (Junior Women), Isabella Holmgren (Junior Women) and Ian Ackert (Junior Men). Ackert started the last lap in fourth, quickly moved up to third and managed to hold of Elite pro man Fini Carstensen (Denmark) until the final climb, less than a kilometre from the finish line.
"I passed someone on the start of the lap," explained Ackert, "and I just pinned it the whole way around. I could tell he [Carstensen] was gaining and was just on the last, climb when he pinned it a little more than I could. I tried to stay with him and it ended in a pretty close sprint. I'm really happy with how I rode, I didn't hold back at all."
