Team Canada won its first medal of the Junior Track World Championships on Thursday in Cali, Colombia, with the men’s Team Pursuit squad taking the bronze medal, breaking the national record in the process.
The Canadian squad of Charles Bergeron, Justin Roy, Ethan Powell and Albert Taylor set a time of 4:01.553 in the first round on Wednesday to qualify for the bronze medal final, and then rode 4:02.977 on Thursday in the medal round (Kaden Colling substituted for Taylor). Both times were faster than the previous record of 4:05.358 set in 2019 at the world championships. Albert Taylor rode in the Scratch Race, crashing in the qualifier.
In the women’s Team Pursuit, the team of Anika Brants, Nora Linton, Anabelle Thomas and Taylor Tompkins finished sixth overall. Brants also rode in the Elimination Race, finishing 11th.
