Canada's Gunnar Holmgren (Pivot OTE) was on track for a career best top-10 in the Elite men's XCO World Cup on Sunday at Les Gets, France, when he suffered a flat tire, dropping him to 33rd in the results. He still improved from 36th to 33rd in the overall standings.
After recording a 12th place in the XCC on Friday, garnering him a second row start position for the XCO, Holmgren played in conservative for the first few laps - as he has done in previous World Cups this season - before beginning his march up through the field. By the start of the final lap, he was into ninth place and challenging for eighth when disaster struck: "I was riding in the top ten then made a mistake and got a flat. Obviously very frustrated with myself but also super happy with how I was racing until then. The fire is lit for Snowshoe and MSA!"
In other Canadian results, Carter Woods (Giant Factory) scored another podium with his third place in Under-23 men, maintaining his third place in the overall standings. Emilly Johnston (Trek Future) was ninth in Under-23 women, and remains ninth in the standings. Jenn Jackson (Liv Factory) was 29th in Elite women and moved up to 32nd in the overall standings.
