Cycling Canada has updated the planned 2024 national calendar to include national series events such as the Canada Cup and UCI-sanctioned events. It is still not completely fleshed out, with some events missing specific dates and others without organizers.

"After an action-packed 2023 season with events reaching coast to coast, we are pleased to announce our full calendar of national and international events for 2024," said Cycling Canada Events and Officials Manager, Jolène Dupuis. "Our domestic calendar has been built to complement the Paris 2024 Olympic and Paralympic Games, while also providing the best opportunities on home soil for Canadian riders across all disciplines and categories. We are looking forward to seeing more great racing and competitive spirit in the upcoming season."

Track

The 2024 season will begin on the track with the Elite and Masters Canadian Championships returning to the Mattamy National Cycling Centre in Milton, Ontario, on January 5-7. The U17, Junior and Para Canadian Track Championships will return for its second edition in Bromont, Quebec, at the Vélodrome Sylvan Adams - Centre Multisports Desjardins on March 29-31. The Mattamy National Cycling Centre in Milton will host the final round of the Tissot UCI Track Nations Cup on April 12-14; the final qualifying event for Olympic ranking points for the Paris Games.

XCO/XCC/XCM Mountain Bike

The Canada Cup mountain bike Cross-country Olympic (XCO) calendar will get underway on May 18-19 at Hardwood Ski & Bike in Oro Station, Ontario, before continuing to Quebec, Alberta and British Columbia (Cycling Canada has not yet released actual dates and locations). The Series will return to Dieppe, New Brunswick, for the penultimate round, leading riders into the 2024 Canadian XCC & XCO MTB Championships for a second consecutive year in Kentville, Nova Scotia, on July 19-21. The Canada Cup XCO finals will again conclude in St. Félicien, Quebec, on August 24-25. There will once again be UCI cross-country short track (XCC) stops added onto four rounds of the Canada Cup series this year. All Junior events within the Canada Cup XCO series will be sanctioned at a minimum level of UCI C2, including four stops with the UCI Junior Series.

After a successful reintroduction onto the national calendar this year in Whitehorse, Yukon, the 2024 Canadian XCM MTB Championships will make its debut in Thunder Bay, Ontario, on September 7th to finish off the domestic MTB calendar.

Downhill Mountain Bike

The Canada Cup Downhill (DH) series will consist of six rounds, running throughout July and August, starting in Fernie, BC, on July 6-7 with the Dunbar Summer Series. The Canadian Enduro MTB Championships return to Whistler, BC, on July 28th and the Canadian Downhill MTB Championships will be held on August 10-11, returning to Sun Peaks, BC. The final round of the Downhill series will be held for the first time in Mount Washington, BC, on August 24-25 at the Stevie Smith Memorial Canada Cup.

Road

The Road cycling season will begin in Quebec, with Elite men's teams lining up for the UCI-sanctioned the Tour de Beauce on June 12-16. They will be joined in St-Georges the following week by Junior, Under-23, Elite and Para athletes (men and women) for the Canadian Road Championships on June 21-24. The Global Relay Gastown Grand Prix will return to Vancouver, BC, on July 10th, while Junior men will attend the Challenge Sprint and Tour de l'Abitibi on July 15-21 in northern Quebec. The Tour de Gatineau for pro women successfully returned in 2023 after a four year hiatus from the pandemic and will be back on the calendar in 2024 on September 6-8. The road season finishes with the UCI World Tour stops at the Grand Prix Cyclistes de Quebec and Montreal, when the top professional men comet to North America on September 13th and 15th, respectively.

Gravel

The gravel season, as currently scheduled, is poorly designed, with the Blue Mountain UCI Gravel World Series on June 15th in Collingwood, Ontario, and the Canadian Gravel Championships in Calgary, Alberta, on the following day! Apparently, neither organizer is able/willing shift to a different date. Sadly, this will likely result in them becoming regional East-West events.

BMX

The BMX racing calendar continues incorporate back-to-back events on weekends, beginning with the Canadian Championships and first round of the Canada Cup series in Vaudreuil-Solanges, Quebec, on the UCI-mandated national championships weekend of July 6-7, before moving to Drummondville, Quebec, for the second stop of the Series. The Series then moves west to Alberta for stops in St. Albert on August 17-18, and the Series final in Red Deer on August 24-25 to end the domestic season.

Para

The para-cycling calendar will begin and end in Quebec, starting in Bromont on March 29-31 for the Canadian Track Championships before heading back to Montreal on May 4-5 for the Challenge Gary Longhi as part of the Défi Sportif AlterGo Paralympic Festival. The para-road season will conclude with the Canadian Championships in St. Georges on June 21-23.

Still to be Scheduled

Noticeably absent from the current calendar are the the 2024 Canadian Masters Road Championships and the 2024 Canadian BMX Freestyle Championships, which remain open for applications. Any interested organizer should contact jolene.dupuis@cyclingcanada for more information.

Also absent from the announcement are the remaining events in the cyclo-cross discipline. Cycling Canada is currently working with organizers towards an event application deadline of October 1st. Following the review of all relevant applications, Cycling Canada will publish a release with complete event details in late 2023. The full events calendar will be available in late November.
