Canada's Ian Ackert, in his first year as an Under-23 man, finished sixth at the world championships in Tabor, Czechia. Tibor del Grosso took the win for the Netherlands, dominating the race, with two Belgians sprinting for silver, with Emiel Verstrynge beating Jente Michels.

Ackert, the National and Continental champion began on the second row and never fell out of the top-10. He managed to avoid a big crash early in the first lap and rode for the opening three laps in fifth place, before getting caught by a group of three riders. He continued to fight for positions, finishing behind French rider Remi Lelandais by 11 seconds and just ahead of three chasers. Canada's other entrant, Cody Scott, was caught behind the early crash, finishing 53rd.
Del Grosso rode at the front in the opening lap with Verstrynge, before dropping the Belgian and steadily riding away from the rest of the field. Verstrynge was joined on Lap 3 by Michels, and the pair sprinted for silver.
