Vollering takes over the leader's jersey
First assisting her teammate Vas into the lead and then grabbing the Red jersey for herself Demi Vollering (Team SD Worx-Protime) took the overall lead of La Vuelta Femenina. Vollering stormed the first mountain stage of the race, attacking her rivals on the steep final climb to Jaca's Fuerte Rapitán, then powering away solo with 800 meters to go to collect her first victory of the season. Yara Kastelijn (Fenix-Deceuninck) and Elisa Longo Borghini (Lidl-Trek) were her closest challengers, crossing the finish line 28s in arrears. Vollering becomes the overall leader with a 31s advantage on Longo Borghini and 53s on Team Visma-Lease a Bike's Riejanne Markus.
Top Canadian on the stage was Olivia Baril (Movistar) in 30th at 2:36 back. Baril is also top Canadian in the overall sitting 24th at 4:44 back
