After three hard days of road racing, the Tour de Beauce moved to Quebec City on Saturday for Stage 4, a 35 lap, 70 kilometre circuit race. Brendan Rhim (Project Echelon) took the second win of the week for his team in a long uphill sprint. Sean Christian (Aevolo) finished second, for the second time, while Tom Paquet (N'SIDE) was third. Laurent Gervais (Project Echelon) was the top Canadian, in fourth. There were no changes at the top of the General Classification, with all four Jersey holders retaining their jerseys - Josh Burnett (MitoQ-NZ) in Yellow, Tyler Stites (Project Echelon) in White (Points), Arthur Liardet (N'SIDE) in the Polka Dot jersey and Ian Lopez de san Roman (Aevolo) in Red (Best Young Rider).
The rectangular circuit finished along the Grand Allee, and there were many spectators in the sunny conditions. Burnett's and Stites' teams monitored the front of the race closely, not allowing any large groups to get away. Three riders did open a gap that went to over 15 seconds approximately a third of the way into the race - Francis Izquierdo Bernier (Cannondale Echelon p/b 4iiii), Sean Christian (Aevolo) and Léonard Peloquin (N'SIDE). Peloquin was the first to get dropped, as others tried unsuccessfully to bridge across, and the remaining two riders were brought back with 12 laps remaining.
Project Echelon then set a punishing pace, which shed a big chunk of the remaining riders, but did not put Burnett in any difficulty. Liardet tried a flyer at the start of the last lap, but was quickly brought back. Out of the final corner, teams started to wind things up for the final 300 metre climb to the finish line, with Rhim and Christian in a drag race at the front. Rhim pulled ahead in the final 100 metres to win by a bike length. Unfortunately, the finish was marred by a crash about 15 riders behind the leaders, with Michael Foley (Toronto Hustle) one of the riders to go down. He finished with scrapes all down his right side.
