The Halifax Oceanics, a local cycling team captained by Matt Kamermans (Halifax) and crewed by Chris Algar, Evan Bezanson, Jonathan Peverill, and Neil McInnis (all of Halifax), set a new record for completing the Cabot Trail by bicycle. Starting from the Baddeck court house at 7:00 am on the morning of August 3rd, the group completed the Trail in 9:33:33.

"This is a big adventure for a small team," says Kamermans, a veteran of the challenge. "With the conditions we had today, extreme heat and some bouts of strong wind, it was touch-and-go for a long time as to whether or not we'd break the previous record of 9:54:30. That time has stood
for 21 years and it wasn't until we were well inside the final hour that we knew we had it."

The Oceanics have entered their second year as a full-time supported cycling team, and thank their sponsors, namely Audi Halifax and Rackology, for their support at records like these.
