The Tour de Gatineau gets underway on Friday, with over 100 riders from 12 countries scheduled to compete. Racing begins on Friday with the UCI sanctioned Chrono Gatineau, a 20 kilometre time trial, followed by the UCI sanctioned 117.7 kilometre road race on Saturday. The weekend concludes with a Criterium (non-UCI) on Sunday.
Both the time trial and road race will take place on a new 10 kilometre circuit that incorporates sections of the Gatineau Parkway. It is not particularly hilly, but there is one short climb at around the four kilometre mark.
With the Road World Championships about to get underway this weekend, some younger, lesser-known riders are getting the opportunity to compete at Gatineau. Twelve (12) of the 17 teams are Canadian in composition, with over half the field from Canada. Among the more well-known names are Olympic track rider Letizia Paternoster (LIV Ulula Jayco), local favourite Laurie Milette (Team Komugo Grand Est), team mates Sarah van Dam (Olympian) and Shayna Powless (DNA Pro Cycling), and Team Canada's Lily Plante and Ngaire Barraclough.
