June 30/25 8:22 am - Morin & Moreau Work Together to Take Junior & U17 Men's Titles

Despite forecasts of little to no rain, the Junior and Under-17 men faced wet windy conditions on Sunday for their 115 kilometre national road championship race. A pair of breakaways came to the finish line arm-in-arm, with Ben Morin (Team Alberta) taking the Junior title and Zachari Moreau (Équipe du Québec) the Under-17 one.

One rider finally manage to break clear at the 18 kilometre mark, Elliot Perrault (Espoirs Quilicot), who took his lead out to over a minute by the 25 kilometre point. He couldn't manage to hold it, and was overtaken and dropped on the first of two 28 kilometre circuits by Antoine Bergeron (Watersley R+D Cycling Team) and Jake Mclean (Ignite Junior Cycling). By the end of the first lap the lead group had swelled to eight riders, and the peloton was fairly shattered behind.

Both Morin and Moreau were in that lead group, and attacked on the second lap. Behind there was a shuffling in the chase, with some riders coming up from the peloton to replace others that had been dropped from the chase. The leaders worked well together, knowing that they would each get a title by staying away.

Morin and Moreau finished 21 seconds in front of the nine chasers, with Monty Rigby (PNW Racing) winning the group sprint for silver in Junior men, ahead of Bergeron. Carter Deveer (Team Ontario) was the only other U17 rider in the front groups, and took silver.
