Jhonatan Narvaez (UAE Emirates-XRG) took his second stage victory, winning solo after 156-kilometres between Chieti and Fermo. The Ecuadorian capped it off after a long attack on a very fast day, marked by constant attacks and numerous splits in the peloton. Afonso Eulalio (Bahrain-Victorious) managed to retain the pink jersey while Jonas Vingegaard (Visma-Lease a Bike) cut two more seconds off his overall lead.

The stage, with four categorized climbs, delivered an aggressive spectacle. Narvaez attacked with less than ten kilometres to the finish and held on ahead of Andreas Leknessund (Uno-X Mobility), second at 32 seconds, and Martin Tjotta (Uno-X Mobility), third at 42.

A stage at full speed from the start
The race started at full throttle from the flag in Chieti. Simone Gualdi (Lotto-Intermarché) was the first to attack, and numerous breakaways quickly formed, including important riders such as Ivan García Cortina, Alberto Bettiol, Filippo Ganna, Diego Ulissi, and Mikkel Bjerg.

For more than 80 kilometres, attacks and counter-attacks followed one after another, with no group managing to establish a definitive breakaway. UAE Emirates-XRG, Uno-X Mobility, and XDS-Astana were among the most active teams on a day of constant attrition.

The race reached a very high average speed, and the successive climbs eventually broke the peloton into several groups. Even Jonas Vingegaard was momentarily dropped 72 kilometres from the finish, although Visma-Lease a Bike managed to bring him back to the main group shortly after.

Narvaez Attacks
The decisive action began in the final section, when Jhonatan Narvaez, Mikkel Bjerg, and Andreas Leknessund established a breakaway at the front of the race. The trio opened up a gap while behind them, Bahrain-Victorious tried to control the GC contenders.

Narvaez looked particularly strong on the final climbs. The Ecuadorian rider passed through Monterubbiano in first position and subsequently launched his decisive attack before Capodarco, dropping first Bjerg and then Leknessund.

The reigning Ecuadorian national champion crested the final categorized climb in the lead and tackled the approach to Fermo alone. Behind, Leknessund tried unsuccessfully to close the gap, while the group of favourites, reduced to about thirty riders, chased but were too far back.

On the final climb towards Fermo, Afonso Eulalio found the strength to launch a small attack from within the group of favourites just 200 metres from the finish line.

The general classification saw some small changes among the top 20, although Vingegaard continues to gradually close the gap on the lead. The Dane finished the stage 1:51 behind the winner, along with the main group of favourites.

Derek Gee-West was the top Canadian in 40th at 1:52 back.  Gee-West remains top Canadian in the GC dropping to 14th at 6:10 back.
