The Tour de Beauce saw a new rider don the Yellow leader's jersey on Thursday after Stage 2, with Adam Lewis (APS ProCycling by Team Cadence) taking over from Andres Paredes (Team Medellin-EPM) after finishing second on the 169 kilometre stage. Paredes' teammate Leandro Oyola won the stage, while Paredes finished fifth after a late three rider beakaway managed to stay away to the line.

The stage began and finished in Saint-Odilon, with riders making one big square lap that included three KoM climbs, plus many other uncategorized ones. The predicted rain held off, with the exception of a brief cloudburst on the descent after the third KoM climb that drenched everyone before the sun came back out.
Unlike Stage 1, a break of ten riders formed within the first 30 kilometres, quickly going to 35 seconds and then two minutes by the 70 kilometre mark. The KoM climbs took their toll, and the group was down to seven with 57 kilometres remaining: George Jackson (Whoosh - NZ Cycling Project), Keegan Hornblow (Whoosh - NZ Cycling Project), Quinn Felton (Project Echelon Racing), Jacob Roy (Les Régis p/b Groupe Automax), Carl Truffer (Entreposage Bluebird Québec en vélo), Eddy Huntsman (APS ProCycling by team Cadence Cyclery) and Gabriel Seguin (TaG Cycling). The gap was 2:15, and Roy was the Virtual Yellow Jersey on the road.
However, that was the maximum they reached, as the peloton began to chase in earnest - with 49 kilometres remaining it was below 90 seconds, as APS, Whoosh and Cascadia powered the chase. On the rolling hills this disintegrated the peloton into three groups. The top players, including the Yellow Jersey, were in the front group of the chase, and they started gobbling up the break as it fell apart. Seguin struck out alone and managed to stay away for a few kilometres before he too was caught.
The second group managed to catch up to the leaders with less than 30 kilometres to go, and three new riders attacked at approximately the 25 kilometre mark - Oyola, Lewis and Killian O'Brien (Team Skyline). By the 20 kilometre to go point they had 35 seconds, with no organized chase behind them, and 16 kilometres from the finish they were over 40 seconds ahead. In the final five kilometres, Paredes took up the chase with five other riders, including Jerome Gauthier (Project Echelon), but they finished 18 seconds back. Oyola attacked Lewis on the final uphill sprint to take the stage win, with O'Brien hanging for third, as Gauthier threw his bike on the line to take fourth ahead of Paredes. Lewis, with his gap to Paredes, plus time bonuses, moves into the overall lead by 13 seconds, with Stage 1 winner Marshall Erwood (Whoosh-NZ Cycling Project) dropping to third at 18 seconds.

Paredes continues to hold the Points Jersey, as does Erwood the Best Young Rider, and Samuel Couture (Cannondale Echelon p/b 4iiii) remains in the Climber's Jersey.
Tomorrow, riders faced the Queen Stage of the Tour de Beauce, a 169 kilometre point-to-point race from Lac Megantic to finish at the summit of Mont-Megantic, which averages 9.6% over 5.7 kilometres, which pitches up to 12% in sections. It regularly reshuffles the standings.
