More Calendars Up

We have managed to get a couple more Provincial Calendars online - go to our Calendars section to see the Saskatchewan and Manitoba Provincial Calendars. Tomorrow we expect to get Ontario and Quebec up. By the way, the contact info for the Mountain Bike Nationals has been updated as well - go to the National Calendar to get the latest info.

Cyclops Moves East

We just received a fax from framebuilder Mike Mulholland, aka, Cyclops Bicycles. He moved from Ontario to B.C. a few years ago, but now it appears he is moving back to Ontario! Mike will be at the Toronto International Bicycle Show (March 6-8 at the Exhibition Grounds, check out the website). We will be there also, holding down our usual spot next to the food court in the southwest corner - stop by to say hi.

News From Manitoba (courtesy MCA)

All the sites for the cycling events for the `99 Pan-Am games are now set.

The Mountain Bike venue will be at the Birch Ski Area. Trails are currently being designed and developed for the games. The MCA and Pan Am Games have also ventured together in producing mapping of the area with the ability to establish trails for future MCA use.

The new permanent concrete velodrome will be built at Red River Exhibition Park, located next to Assiniboia Downs on the west Perimeter Highway (101) and Hwy 1. Construction of the BELOW grade velodrome will commence in late May of 98. The 250 m concrete track is expected to be finished in September 98.

The Road Race site for road cycling will be located in Birds Hill Park. The park will be going through some major upgrading over the next few months. The roads will all be resurfaced and shoulders will be added. The time trials will start on the north side of the park by the stable road, continue west to highway 59, north on 59 to highway 44, east to highway 206 and south to the east gate of the park, finishing up at the start/finish line.

RACING LICENSES

In an effort to decrease the cost of competing for novice and beginning riders the MCA board has developed a new licensing structure. There will now be a choice to purchase a CCA license or a MCA license. The CCA license allows you to race at any CCA sanctioned event across Canada. The MCA license only allows you to race at MCA sanction events in Manitoba. A license will be required for all MCA sanctioned Mountain Bike, Road, Track, Criterium, or Time Trial races.

The Habitat Ride for 98 has been announced. This years ride will be a 1 week event. It will be a Ride Across Manitoba and will take place from July 18 to July 25/98. Call Habitat at (204) 233-5599 for further details.
