Yellow jersey holder Stuart O'Grady's Credit Agricole team stunned everyone by winning the team time trial ahead of favoured ONCE, Telekom and U.S. Postal. Both Telekom and U.S. Postal had problems - Zabel flatted on Telekom and Christian Van Velde crashed hard in the Posties squad, taking down Roberto Heras with him. The Posties waited for both riders, and then still posted the fastest time thus far, eventually finishing fourth behind Credit Agricole, ONCE and Festina. Telekom finished well back in seventh. O'Grady holds onto his leader's jersey, and is joined by team mates Jens Voight and Bobby Julich in second and third respectively.
