Sympatico.ca Soiree

Team Sympatico.ca (nee Jet Fuel) announces its annual team soiree. Its a chance to exchange some OLN coverage stories and some race stories. This Friday, July 20th at Jet Fuel Coffee shop, 519 Parliament St, Toronto. The event starts at 8:00pm. Raffle prizes from Nike, MEC, Merrell Footwear, Sierra Designs, Louis Garneau, Shimano, GinsanaSport. Beverage service provided by St-Ambroise.

So far we've had a total of 98 participants in the Hamilton Cycling Club's Tuesday Night Criterium Training Ride. The ride consists of 36 laps of the course, which totals about 40 kilometres, and the registration fee is $2.00 per week. It's great training, hot competition and fun, too . . . and we always go to Tim Horton's after. Come on out and join us!

Tonight (July 17th), we had 47 riders. Hamilton Cycling Club's own CHRIS KIRIAKOPOULOS and ZOLTAN WIGHARDT both had outstanding rides on this fine evening! Way to go, guys!

1. With 24 laps to go, we awarded a $5.00 prime and two Clif Bars which were won by first-time participant, MICHAEL YBANEZ.

2. With 12 laps to go, we awarded a 3-point prime which was won by MICHAEL MOORE this week.

The finishing order for July 17th was:

Jamais assez pour Cloutier : cinq victoires consécutives aux Mardis cyclistes de Lachine

Lachine, Québec ˆ 17 juillet 2001. " Plus ça change, plus c'est pareil ", pourrait-on dire. La formation Volkswagen- Les Ailes, Alexandre Cloutier en tête, a poursuivi sa domination aux mardis cyclistes de Lachine. Ayant établi une nouvelle marque la semaine dernière en remportant une quatrième épreuve d'affilée, Alexandre Cloutier a de nouveau franchi le fil d'arrivée en première place. Czeslaw Lukaszewicz est monté sur la deuxième marche du podium tandis que le coéquipier de Cloutier, Martin Gilbert, a complété le trio des médaillés.

" Notre but premier ce soir c'était la victoire d'équipe ", a expliqué Cloutier, presque gêné de sa victoire, mais tout de même très heureux. " Au dernier tour, nous avons préparé le sprint pour Martin (Gilbert). Le travail de l'équipe a été très bon car nous étions tous au-devant du peloton. "

Cette tâche du cycliste de Ste-Foy de " mettre la table " pour Gilbert lui aura permis d'être toujours aux avants postes du peloton, ce qui a fait en sorte qu'il a pu se battre pour la première place. " Dans l'avant-dernier droit, j'étais en avant, mais c'est finalement Czeslaw Lukaszewicz qui est sorti premier du virage. Martin était mal placé pour le sprint, alors j'ai foncé. "

Avec cette victoire, Cloutier consolide ainsi sa première place au classement général provisoire. De son côté, Gilbert, qui avait remporté la première tranche de la série, reste au deuxième rang. L'absence de la formation Volkswagen ˆ Les Ailes lors de la prochaine édition des mardis cyclistes (en raison de la présentation des Championnats canadiens sur route, tenus au Nouveau-Brunswick) pourrait influencer quelque peu le classement général.

Les autres membres de l'équipe Volkswagen ˆ Les Ailes, Pascal Choquette, Cory Jay, François Parisien, Martin St-Laurent, Corey Gladish, Marc-André Salois, Bruno Langlois et Martin Nuckle ont terminé dans le peloton.
