Saturn Cycling Classic Update
The leaders are now approaching the top of the longest climb in the race - Guanella Pass at 11, 671 feet. This also approximately the halfway mark. Chris Horner (Mercury) is leading solo over Burke Swindlehurst (Navigators) by 1:43, with a chase group of 8 at 3:20. In the group is Mike Barry (Saturn), Scott Moninger (Mercury) and Jonathon Vaughters (Handle Bar & Grill).
New update: Over the Guanella Pass Horner leads Vaughters by 1:50, Swindlehurst at 2:00, Chris Wherry (Mercury) at 2:10 and Mike Barry at 2:20. This group should come together on the descent.
Canada Cup Final - Sun Peaks, BC
The junior women's cross-country is underway now and we will have our first update in about 30 minutes at the halfway mark in the race. The course is almost identical to last week's nationals, at 6.4 kilometres. The junior women are doing 3 laps, the elite women and junior expert men 4 laps plus one shorter (4 kilometre) loop and the elite men 5 laps plus one shorter loop.
Our man on the ground - Greg Flaaten - reports that the weather is perfect - hot and sunny with not a cloud in the sky. The temperature is approaching 30 degrees C. The men's start list includes series leader Mat Toulouse (Ford-Devinci), Eric Tourville and Bill Hurley (both Oryx), Andreas Hestler (Rocky Mountain) and Geoff Kabush (Kona). The women's field boasts Trish Sinclair (Ford-Devinci), Marie-Helene Premont (Oryx) and Kiara Bisaro (Trek-Smith).
