Day 4

Olympic Sprint Classification Round
1. Canada (L.Madsen, S.Madsen, J.Fisher) 46.565
2. Colombia 47.977
3. Chile 48.085

This is the fastest time that our Olympic Sprint team has ever gone (personal best time). All 3 riders put together very solid performances, Lars had a very strong start, Steen blazed the 2nd lap, and Jim rode his best ever in the Olympic Sprint event bringing the team home to a new Canadian best time (and track record).

Keirin Classification Round
Both Doug Baron and Steen Madsen qualified for the * (SEMI) finals which will take place on Day 5. Doug placed 3rd in his heat (top 3 advance), and Steen Madsen was the victor of his qualifiying heat.

Olympic Sprint Final Round
1. Canada (L.Madsen, D.Baron, J.Fisher) 47.204
2. Colombia 47.841
3. Chile 48.379

Canada will ride against Colombia for the gold medal this evening (Aug 24).

Men's Points Race

Mark Ernsting and Alex Cloutier represented Canada tonite in the event. Mark rode a very strong, and very aggressive race tonite. He was the most aggressive rider in the field, breaking away solo 6-7 times during the event. The most impressive was his 15 lap breakaway with 17 laps remaining. He was able to score 6 points up until this point and with his solo break at work he scored another 10 points while off the front. Mark came within 1.5 laps of winning the final sprint and vaulting onto the podium in the event. With Mark off the front with 4 laps to go, the rest of the pack got together and reeled him in ensuring a South American podium.

Final night of track events tonite.... and the time trial on the road begins in less than 1.5 hours !!!
