Day 5, Road Time Trial

Women 20 KM Time Trial

Clare rode a very good ride today. After arriving into Medellin on Monday evening, Clare hasn't been able to ride her bike. Her own bike didn't arrive until late last night. Yesterday evening she was able to secure a bike to use in case hers didn't arrive. This was 4 days without riding ! Clare ended up riding the time trial today on a borrowed bike, as her own bike suffered a bit of damage on route to Colombia (broken spokes on her race wheels). The bike available (borrowed bike) was a very sweet time trial bike making the choice pretty easy to make !

Official results were unavailable at the time of me writing this , but for sure Svein is 3rd ! (he received the medal, and went through doping control already !). Svein rode incredible today, leading the race for the first 25 kilometers. The course was an out and back for the first 20 km (10 km out, 10 km back) then the course passed through the start /finish line heading in the other direction for 22 KM. (11 km out / 11 km back). At the 25 km mark Svein hit the first of the rolling hills on the course, and for the next 7 km he lost a bit of time on both Colombian riders (down 1:15 seconds after the 32 km mark). Svein battled back and finished on the podium in a very incredible performance.

Svein's 3rd place today marks the 3rd medal for the Canadian contingent here in Medellin. Tonight's racing includes three more chances for our team to score medals. The Olympic sprint is 1st up on the schedule, followed by the Madison, and finishing up the track competition here is the men's keirin.
