This posting is for the edification of a few readers who are not aware that the Canadian Cycling Association (and their own Provincial Association) are the proper sources for this information. It will not be posted on the World Championships website, since that website is for information about the World‚s as a whole, not just for Canadian riders. For the most up-to-date information on Canadian selection criteria for any National Team project, contact the CCA. We would like to thank Dave Viney of Hardwood Hills Mountain Bike Centre for this information.

1998 Mountain Bike World Championships and Masters Championships
Canadian Team Eligibility and Selection

The following are the number of eligible riders and the selection process for the 1998 World Championships in Mt Ste Anne, Canada.

A funded position does not mean a fully funded position. A cost sharing formula may be developed for the World Championships.

Self funded riders will be required to purchase a National Team jersey ($50.00), and pay a support staff fee ($60.00). All travel and accommodation arrangements are the responsibility of self-funded athletes.

Masters riders will be required to purchase a National team jersey ($50.00), pay their entry fee ($70.00), and a support staff fee ($60.00). Forms will be available at all Canada Cup events. All travel and accommodation arrangements are the responsibility of self-funded Master athletes.

Attendance at the National Championships is MANDATORY for all Junior, Espoir and Senior riders.

Performance standards must be met for any position. These performance standards are based on:

World Cup results
UCI ranking
National Championships results
Canada Cup ranking

and are reflected in the points system which applies to all categories and disciplines.
