Whittingham Ups Record
Quadra Island native and Victoria B.C. resident, Sam Whittingham, has unofficially shattered his own world record at the 2001 World Human Powered Speed Challenge, Whittingham upped his 200M record to 77.59 mph. The Challenge ends today.
Sam was piloting the Varna Diablo created by George Georgiev of Gabriela Island.
Multi-Laser Cycling Grand Prix Raises $5,000 for the Kingston Regional Cancer Centre Children's Fund
Brian Cosgrove, President of MultiLaser Solutions Inc. and the MultiLaser Racing Cycling Team will present a cheque for $5,000 to the Kingston Regional Cancer Centre on Tuesday, October 9th, 2001 in the Shea Conference Room on Burr 1 at 2:00 pm.
Funds have been raised throughout the cycling season by the team competing in events in Ontario, Quebec, Atlantic Canada and Northeastern United States. Sponsorship money from MultiLaser Solutions, winnings from races and a portion of registration money from the final event - The MultiLaser Cycling Grand Prix held in Gananoque on September 22 & 23rd has helped raise the money being presented.
The Kingston Regional Cancer Centre Children's Fund provides financial support to families with children receiving cancer treatment at the Centre. Families may apply for assistance for medications, medical devices, dental procedures, educational support or out-of-town travel expenses for a child receiving out-patient treatments in another city.
"A child with cancer is hard enough," says Dr. Anne Smith, CEO of the Kingston Regional Cancer Centre. "With this fund we are able to provide assistance and provide some financial relief to parents for medications and travel expenses not covered by other programs. We appreciate the generous support provided by MultiLaser Solutions."
