We had another great Rocky Mountain showing yesterday at the Worlds in Maui. This time I finished 5th, so we had good podium representation at both the World Championships and the US National Championships with Andreas's 5th place there.

I did come out of the water 361st . . . if only I could swim. Second place was only 2 1/2 minutes away at the end and I gave up almost 10mins again to the slowest women in the swim . . . and apparently passed 297 people during the race.(Men and Women race together).

Anke Erlank (Saturn /Timex road team) and Conrad Stoltz (Specialized) both of South Africa took commanding leads and won with large margins. There is full race coverage on XTerraplanet.com as well as full web cast. CBS are doing an hour show that will be aired around Dec 20th.

Andreas had a very solid 13th place and Lucas Curran who rides Pro D for Rocky was 18th. Andreas was in contention for a top spot after the bike, but lost some spots in the run. Having just come off the Mountain Bike season he hasn't had a chance to get running legs going.

Melanie McQuaid was here and feeling good with hopes for a top-3, but things didn't seem to go well and she dnf'd in the run. I think at that point she was well outside the top 10.

Mike Vine another Canadian was one of the favourites after a second place here last year, but mechanicals and badly blistered feet put an end to his dream. He did suffer through for a 23rd place finish however.

The topics we will be covering are a recap of our Club and Racing team, 2001 Road and Mountain Bike season and unveiling our exciting program of events for 2002. We'll also be detailing next year training camp week in Table Rock South Carolina (end of March/early April 2002)

2002 will be our 11th year and it promises to be our best year ever.

On the Road we will be holding a Time Trial nearly every week from the middle of April to mid September, which, collectively with our Road Races and Stage Races, will be used to determine the overall Club Champion. We'll also have 3 road races, which will be used to determine the winner of our coveted Oak Cup. Not to mention our infamous Exit to Eden ride and Gary's Pie Ride II.

Mountain Bike members will recap 2001 race results and 2002 plans which will include O.Cup cross-country and downhill series, Kelso week night series, Enduro Cup series, 24 Hour Team Relay and Solo races, multi-sport multi-day Adventure Races, and the Club's Road & Mtb Team Relay race.
