Hell and Back

The third annual edition of this 140 km event will be held on Sunday 18th November. The course is over the worst roads and tracks that can be found between Markham, Ontario and Lake Simcoe and return. Conditions will depend on the weather during the preceding week. The gravel roads and off road sections can be hard and fast or water logged and very slow.
The ideal bike is a cyclo-cross bike with smooth but large section tires (at least 28 mm) although in good dry conditions narrower tires can be used. If you want to ride a mountain bike I would suggest smoother tires as knobbies may be very slow on the fast sections.
The start is at the Cedar Grove Community Centre which is located on 14th Avenue just east of Reesor Road. You can reach it by coming off Hwy 401 at Markham Road (Hwy 48) and going North to 14th Avenue. Then go east to Reesor Road and the Community Centre is about 500 metres further on.
Start is at 8 AM. Registration starts at 7 AM. The entrance fee is $25.00. There will be a feeding station at the half way point where some food and hopefully a hot drink will be available. There will be hot drinks and food at the finish. In the evening at 8 PM there will be an awards dinner at Aunties & Uncles Restaurant at 200 Bathurst Street in Toronto. It should be a great end of season social event. Price is $25.00 which includes meal, beer, coffee and tip. (For more details see Krys Hines' posting on the Forum.
