Alberta News

The Alberta Bicycle Association is looking for a Mountain Bike Coach. The contract runs April 1 to August 31, 1998. Responsibilities will include: Rider Development, Clinics, Team Management, Program Planning, Administration. Resumes can be sent by mail, fax (403-453-8576) or e-mail: aba@compusmart.ab.ca until March 20th.

Alberta is also looking for a Track Coach for the month of July. The coach will manage the provincial team at the Track Nationals, attend pre-Nationals meets and prepare riders for the Nationals. The deadline is April 1 for resumes, and they should be sent to the same place as the Mountain Bike applications.


Alex Stieda Sells Out!

This coming Saturday (March 21st), former road pro Alex Stieda will be having a garage sale of some of his cycling stuff, including old team clothing, bikes, wheel sets, etc. The time is 9:00 am to 1:00 pm, and the location is 13207 81 Ave. (in Edmonton). Alex was, of course, was a member of the first major North American pro team, 7-11, and was the first North American to wear the Yellow Jersey as the Tour de France race leader (I wonder if he is selling his Maillot Jaune...). If you do go, please drop us a line and let us know how the event went.


P.S. You have probably noted the colour of this posting is a little different from usual. We wanted to give our Irish heritage (real or imagined...) readers a bit of a treat on St Patrick‚s Day. Have a Guiness on us (don‚t send us the bill...).
