Canadians Join IMBA Trail Crew
IMBA (International Mountain Bike Association) is pleased to announce that a Canadian team has been added as their newest Subaru/IMBA Trail Care Crew. Mark Schmidt and Lora Woolner will be traveling throughout the U.S. and parts of Canada as trail ambassadors and trail building instructors. Mark and Lora come to IMBA with a strong passion for and commitment to the sport of mountain biking.
Lora brings with her a strong background in trail building, event coordination, and advocacy. For the past four years she has worked as the Mountain Bike Coordinator for Kelso Conservation Area in Ontario, while completing an honours degree in biology and working on a post graduate certificate in outdoor recreation. Mark is an industrial designer who is looking forward to applying his award-winning design skills to the trail. He is eager to apply 3-D modeling software to look at the effects of water erosion on trail design, and is particularly interested in teaching proper trail building practices to all types of trail users.
Mark and Lora have a long history of riding and racing mountain bikes. This love of mountain biking led both of them into mountain bike instruction. Both have worked as instructors for W.O.W. Ltd. and Hardwood Hills Cross Country Ski and Mountain Bike Centre, teaching everything from beginner skills classes, to rocks and logs clinics, to mountain bike repair. As well, Mark is one of a handful of individuals qualified to certify mountain bike instructors in Ontario. Their love of trails, especially traveling to explore new trails, will serve them well in their capacity as trail ambassadors.
Mark and Lora would like to thank all of their Canadian friends (Mike and Natalie, Dave and Vanessa, Ed, Sharon, the staff of Hardwood Hills, and all of the folks that they‚ve had the pleasure of riding and working with) who have assisted them in both the fun and the serious side of mountain biking. They will be back home to Canada as often as their schedule permits. If you see the IMBA Subaru at an event make sure you drop by and say hello!
Bessette Racing in Europe
Lyne Bessette is continuing her campaign to represent Canada at the Cyclo-cross World Championships next month. She raced the GP France in Nommay last weekend (the men raced the World Cup), and won against Corine Dorland of the Netherlands. We still have no word on whether she will be allowed to represent Canada at the Worlds.
Happy Birthday To...
Dave Irvine, tomorrow.
