Report From Trinidad

Hello to everyone in Canada. Happy Easter to all! The Easter weekend here in Trinidad is always the biggest weekend of racing.

The most fans out (last night there were well over 2,000 fans), the most local riders competing, and also 5 new international riders competing. 3 of the new internationals were from Canada as Steen Madsen, Tyler Hansen, and Lars Madsen arrived for this weekend's activities.

The racing for the opening night for these 3 members of our national sprint team took place at the Skinners Park. Glen Rendall joined these 3 sprinters to make our Canadian entrant in the international field 4 strong.

Tyler, Lars and Steen fared quite well in their first night, with Steen and Tyler making the final of the 1 lap event. Lars and Steen also rode very strong in the 3 lap final, with Lars leading for almost 2 laps, totally stringing out the 30 rider pack.

Ryan McKenzie, Chris Bentley, Nick Corcoran and Travis Smith all competed in the category 1 field. Ryan won 2 medals, placing 3rd in the 5 lap event and then ending the category 1 racing for the night with a commanding performance in the 15 lap final (placing 1st).

Our final night in the south of Trinidad finished in true Canadian style. Ryan won the 2nd to last race (15 lap final) and the curtain event (International 25 lap) was won by Glen Rendall.

Glen has had many podium performances here, but this was his first victory. He won it from a pack of 7 riders, in a sprint finish! A great night of racing.

Today and Sunday racing moves to the Queen's Park Oval in Port of Spain.

Finally, a weekend with no driving - the Oval is a 5 minute ride from our guest house, and a very welcome closeness from the usual 1 hour drives to the other tracks we have been competing at.

More news later,

Kurt Innes
National Coach
