Lyne Bessette leaves Saturn

Lyne Bessette will hold a press conference this morning to announce that she has left Saturn and will probably spend the rest of the season riding for Team Canada and be under the specific direction of her coach Éric Van den Eynd.

Her decision comes as no real surprise to some. Lyne has made it no secret that the demands of riding for and supporting her Saturn teammates has often gone against her abilities to pursue her own goals. Last year was especially difficult for her. She won the Tour de L'Aude and the HP, but at the end of the season she was too exhausted to attend the World Championships in Portugal. A major disappointment for her in 2001 was her inability to ride her own race in front of a :hometown" crowd at the Montreal World Cup., where she rode to defend Anna Millward's overall leadership in the World Cup.. Geneviève Jeanson won in a breakaway that saw Bessette unable to respond by her team commitment.
