BC Provincial Road Championships Victoria, June 9th

Perfect weather, good organization, graced our Provincial championships. A few good men were missing but the ones that came, came to do battle.
The race started exactly on time and the action started only a few km later. The first break that stuck was initiated by Cory Lange around the end of the first lap and after about 25 k he was joined by Matt Usborne and (junior) Cameron Evans, Who gave up his very good chance at the junior title so he could better prepare for Abitibi.
For the next 50 km the trio maxed their lead to 2:15. At about 50 km to go Cory detonated and the duo of Cam and Matt were quickly caught. It didn't take long until Scott Goguen, Ross Hooker, and Stephen Colborne formed the winning break.
On the last hard climb it looked like Larry Zimich was going to close the 1:30 gap to join the escaped trio. Unfortunately for Larry he ran out of hill. Using his formidable climbing talents he got to within 20 seconds of the leaders. All that was left was the finish order. Scott, Stephen, then Ross. Larry held his own for 4th and another 30 seconds until a very tired Matt Usborne came in 5th. Cam Evans looks pretty good for Abitibi coming in for 7th. All in all a great day with none of the troubles of the last few races in BC.
