Hamilton Cycling Club's Tuesday Evening Criterium July 16th, 2002
This hot summer evening saw a tactical and entertaining race that featured many attacks and breakaways in the early going. The first prime ($5.00) was won by CHRIS PATON.
During the last third of the race, a six-man break had a gap of nearly half a lap when series leader PIERS DAVIDGE outsprinted second-placed MIREK MAZUR for the 3-point prime at twelve laps to go. These two riders seemed to focus more on each other than on staying in the break, as they were seen playing 'cat and mouse' and were eventually swallowed up by the main group while the break, now three strong held its gap.
The top five finishers this night were JEFF SHARAFBAYANI, PAUL HORNAK, JAY MACLAREN, PIERS DAVIDGE and MIREK MAZUR.
Overall Standings
1. Piers Davidge, 36 points
2. Mirek Mazur, 30 points
2. Paul Hornak, 30 points
3. Jeff Sharafbayani, 24 points
4. Jay MacLaren, 23 points
5. Michael Moore, 20 points
