Post Road Nationals Junior Development Camp

Following the upcoming junior national road championships in Woodstock Ontario running from August 9th to the 11th, the national team will invite 6 junior women and 8 junior men riders eligible for the World Championship pool. From that pool, and after partaking in the development camp, 5 to 6 junior men and 3 to 4 junior women will be invited to participate in the pre-worlds preparation program. From the aforementioned cores a maximum of 5 competitive men and 3 competitive women will be invited to represent Canada at the Junior Road Worlds in Belgium in October.

The selection of the pool of the athletes for the camp that will take place in Hamilton will be based on combined performances at road nationals and in Abitibi (only for junior men), the willingness to improve and a good overall attitude.

The development camp totalling 14 riders, invited coaches and myself will run from August 12th to the 18th. During this one week period athletes will have the opportunity to learn road skills, training and nutritional fundamentals as well as participate in races and learn valuable racing tactics.

For all riders, room and board will be provided free of charge. It is to be noted that the athlete, province or team in which belongs the athlete should cover food expenses.

We at the CCA are aware that some logistical foresight will be necessary when booking tickets for road nationals and possibly the development camp. To avoid any suprises we suggest that when booking your flight arrangements you ask your travel agent for either an open-end ticket or the amount of the additional fee that would be charged if a departure date was to be changed.

This development camp opportunity is truly an occasion for aspiring cyclists to learn more about their sport in a good living and training atmosphere.

Camp de développement junior post championnats canadiens

Suite aux prochains championnats canadiens sur route á Woodstock Ont. du 8 au 11 août le Comité de Haute Performance procédera á une pré-sélection des athlètes juniors femmes et hommes éligibles á intégrer le pool de 6 chez les femmes et 8 chez les hommes en vue des championnats du monde junior. De ce pool, et suite au camp de développement, 5 á 6 hommes et 3 á 4 femmes seront invités á prendre part au programme préparatoire post mondial. Par la suite, et á partir des noyaux mentionnés, un maximum de 3 femmes et 5 hommes jugés compétitifs seront choisi pour représenter le Canada aux Championnats du Monde sur route á Zolder, Belgique en Octobre.

En vue d'une sélection aux championnats du monde l'ACC tiendra un camp d'entraînement á Hamilton, Ontario du 12 au 18 août. Les athlètes qui participeront á ce camp de développement seront sélectionnés grâce aux performances á l'issue du Tour de l'Abitibi (Junior hommes) et du championnat Canadien de route.

Durant ce camp de développement d'une semaine, les cyclistes juniors auront l'opportunité d'apprendre des habiletés techniques sur la route, les rudiments de l'entraînement et de la nutrition ainsi que participer á des courses afin de pratiquer les tactiques de courses indispensables.

Nous sommes conscients que dans certains cas ces activités vous demanderont un peu de prévoyance en ce qui concerne la réservation de vols pour les championnats canadiens et possiblement le camp de développement. Afin de vous éviter toutes surprises, nous vous suggérons de bien prendre contact avec votre agence de voyage afin de connaître les tarifs pour l'obtention d'un billet "ouvert" ou pour savoir quel serait le montant additionnel qu'il vous faudra payer dans le cas où un athlète serait sélectionné pour le camp de développement et que les dates de retour auraient á changer.

Ce camp de développement est réellement une opportunité pour tout cycliste désirant apprendre plus sur le sport qu'il a choisi de pratiquer et ce dans une atmosphère saine.
