Canada Cup #3, Bromont, Quebec - Downhill
Perfect weather conditions and, even better, no blackflies! This was the setting for the third downhill in the Canada Cup national series earlier today. The course was extremely technical in sections, with numerous switchbacks and a tunnel shortly before the end that forced riders to slow significantly before powering back up to speed. Damiann Skelton (Norco) was the women‚s winner, beating Lorraine Blancher (OGC-Proflex) by over 4 seconds. In the men‚s race Quebec rider Frederic Poulin (the only Canadian male rider besides Andrew Shandro to compete on the World Cup circuit this year) beat out Eric Cseff (KHS) by over a second. We are still waiting for official results (all categories), but we will post them when they are received.

I just wanted to say thanks alot for the great coverage of the races. Especially of Lac St-Jean. You really brought my spirits up when I saw the race posted, then to see my teammate win the time trial and be on the top of GC,thanks alot. I was supposed to be there racing with my team untill I sprained my ankle just a week ago. Two days before I was supposed to leave for the race. Keep up the great work and once again thanks for the big smile on my face.

A Legend Dies
Our good friend John W. Hathaway, born in Coventry, England, on January 13, 1925, passed away peacefully at Burnaby General Hospital, on Friday, June 6, 1997.
John's list of cycling accomplishments was too long to recount, but suffice it to say that he cycled around the world twice (or almost, if it hadn't been for crashes, etc.), was the first BC rider to enter Paris-Brest-Paris, and set a Trans-Canada cycling record (1957) which endured for 20 years. He was a life member of the Vancouver Bicycle Club, and was also a stalwart of the Coventry Meteors, and a long-time member of Cycling B.C. and the organizations that preceded it (BABC, BCCA, etc.).
My good friend Bietta Harritz, who is co-executor of his estate, asked me to pass the word along.
