The going was very heavy, as it had rained or snowed for most of the week. In the Masters 40+ , Dave Dermont (True North) showed his superiority by leading from start to finish. Riding with the seniors for the rest of the series had probably given him the edge. In the women's race, Emily Batty (Bay Cycle Racing Team) diced it out for most of the event with Barb Brzezecki but pulled ahead in the final lap to win comfortably. The junior/cadet race also proved to be a comfortable win for national champion Martin Lazarski (Gears). In the master A event, Chain Reaction's John Kalinowski went away at the start and ended up lapping all except 2nd and 3rd. The anticipated battle among the top elite riders started off with Peter Morse (Midweek C.C.) getting a narrow lead in the first few meters and leading Greg Reain (Gears) and Aaron Fillion (OBC) into the third lap. But then Fillion's sheer strength allowed the Ottawa rider to steadily pull away from Reain and Morse, gaining 10 seconds a lap on Reain and a further 5 seconds per lap on Morse, who looked really tired. And that's the way they finished, with Morse pulling back some time on Reain. David Coughlin (Independent) won the espoir category, being the only under 23 rider to finish on the same lap as the top elite riders.

OBC Awards
At the Ottawa Bicycle Club's Annual Awards Banquet on Friday November 22nd, the Lea Gault Trophy for 2002 Rider of the Year was awarded jointly to Aaron Fillion and Mike Lau.
Aaron Fillion's 2002 record included first place overall in Ontario Cup Road Series. Also this year, Mike Lau became only the second Canadian to complete the Race Across America (RAAM). He finsihed the 5,000km race in 9th place in a starting field of 20.

PacificSport National Cycling Centre Gala
Victoria - Nov. 23, 2002 - In a year when Canadian cyclists were heralded as the champions of the road, velodrome and mountain bike tracks, winning 15 medals at World Championships, Commonwealth Games and Pan American Championships, nine of those amazing performances were from PacificSport National Cycling Centre athletes, many of whom were honoured at the 2002 PacificSport National Cycling Centre Awards Gala Saturday night (November 23rd) in Victoria.
Local hero Roland Green won the Overall Elite Male award after a season where he defended his World Championship title and helped put Canada's Relay Team on the gold medal podium at the World Mountain Bike Championships, a team that also featured PacificSport teammates Ryder Hesjedal (Victoria) , Alison Sydor (Victoria) and Max Plaxton (Tofino, BC)
Hesjedal was also a repeat winner, taking the Overall U23 Award for his bronze medal at the World Championships in Espoir, his first World Cup win and Overall World Cup Espoir title. The Overall Elite women's award went to Alison Sydor who continues to perform in the World's top five internationally and proved her mettle on the gold-medal Relay Team.
