Redline Bicycles, in association with the ABA (American Bicycle Association), are pleased to announce the dates and locations for the 2003 Redline Cup of BMX. This years' schedule includes 66 Qualifier Events, being held in 34 states (including Hawaii) and 2 Canadian providences (BC and Alberta).
This is the 9th straight year that Redline has sponsored this series; making it the longest lasting sponsorship in modern day BMX. Originally called the "Gold Cup" Series, the ABA changed the name of the event three years ago to reflect the title sponsor; officially dubbing it forever as the Redline Cup .
The Redline Cup Series is one of the most popular on the BMX circuit, as No.1 plates are awarded to all main event winners at the three regional "Finals" (held in September). The Redline Cup Finals are an invitational race; to get invited to one, a rider must first qualify at any of the RL Cup Qualifiers held all over the country. A rider must make his or her main event at one of the Qualifiers in order to receive an invite.
Once they've qualified at their local track, BMXers receive an invitation by mail in August, to attend one of the three regional Redline Cup Finals. ABA has split the U.S. in to three sections--East, Central and West. And it is at these prestigeous events that a rider can earn the right to zip-tie a No.1 plate to their handlebars, just by winning their main event. Novices, Intermediates, Experts and Girls all have a shot at earning a No.1 Redline Cup plate.
It's also quite a priviledge for a BMX track to get picked to be a host of a Redline Cup Qualifier. Of the 400+ ABA sanctioned tracks around the country, only 66 of them are chosen as part of this series. A "Qualifier" not only brings the rider a shot at possibly earning a No.1 RL Cup plate, but they also earn triple district points for their finish. Large attendance at these events, along with extra promotional material provided by Redline, can have a very positive effect on a BMX track and the local community.
Within the ever growing extreme market, the Redline Cup Series is predicted to be one of the most hotly contested events in the World of Bicycle Motocross in 2003.
