The Atlas Cold Storage/Italpasta cycling team is pleased to announce its 2003 roster. This year sees a few new recruits and some exciting news that the team has been registered as a Tier 3 UCI team. As always, the venerable John Harris will direct the team, along with Annie Segat. Last year's successes have inspired the team to achieve even loftier heights, after medalling at the National Championships along with a score of top results in North America.
Once again National team rider Andrew Pinfold will be joined by Canadian cycling stalwarts Patrick Shea, Jeff Hansen, Simon Small, Paul Rego, Antoine Varghese and Ross Hooker. Canadian newcomers to the team are Joe Giluliano and Matt Hansen from the Sympatico team, and Bryan Rusche and Gerard Woloviec. Two New Zealanders, Oliver Tompkins and Silas Cullen, will complete the squad.
Atlas Cold/Italpasta, keen on development, is taking junior rider, Andrew Wilson, under its wing. Look for Atlas Cold Storage/Italpasta at many of the major Canadian and North American races this year!

Reigning Australian road champion, Olivia Gollan, 29, (AIS) dominated Stage One of the Geelong Bellarine Tour to claim both the overall and points lead in the three day event. The Newcastle school teacher rode across the line in a time of 49min27sec, 49 seconds clear of second placed Hayley Rutherford, 22, (WA - Road Race Guerciotto) with her team mate, Canberra's Alison Wright, 22, close behind in third.
Gollan attacked the field on lap eight of the 30 lap stage which was raced over a tight, hilly one kilometre circuit at Eastern Park, adjacent to the Geelong Botanic Gardens, as the sun set on Corio Bay.
"I came into tonight a little nervous because it was my first race in the green and gold jersey," said Gollan who won the Australian title last month. "I wanted to be really aggressive and just before the first intermediate sprint thought Å’there's time bonuses on' so I decided to have a go."
Gollan jumped clear to claim the three second bonus on the Lap 10 sprint with Wright and Victorian Elizabeth Williams, 19, (VIS) leading the chasing group across to claim a two and a one second bonus respectively. Gollan went on with her attack and at the Lap 20 sprint had lapped half the field and was still pedalling strongly alone in front. She claimed the maximum bonus seconds again with Williams second and Wright third.
Several riders in the chase group launched themselves after Gollan but every time someone came close she found an extra burst and left them behind relishing the tight corners and testing climb into the finishing straight.
"I really like criteriums (circuits) and I especially like them when they're a little bit tough," said Gollan. "Tonight had a bit of a hill in it which gave me the opportunity to gain an edge and jump past a lot of girls who were struggling a bit."
Gollan also picked up a ten second bonus for the win and that, together with her domination of the first stage, has given her a stranglehold on the tour leader's blue jersey. She is 58sec clear of Wright with Rutherford a further second back in third.
Gollan also leads the sprint classification on six points with Wright and Williams tied on three points each. As Gollan will be wearing the leader's jersey into Stage Two, Wright will wear the red points jersey while Williams leads the U/23 category and will ride tomorrow in the fluorescent yellow jersey of the best young rider.
The 74 strong international field includes world ranked number two, Mirjam MELCHERS, 27, of the Netherlands; world number six, Priska Doppmann, 31, of Switzerland; defending UCI World Cup Series champion and Barcelona individual pursuit gold medallist, Petra Rossner, 36, of Germany and reigning German road champion and 1997 individual pursuit world champion, Judith Arndt, 26.
Tomorrow the riders will contest an 84 kilometre stage, four laps of a 21 kilometre circuit which begins in Drysdale, south of Geelong, and winds down through the Bellarine Peninsula to Portarlington before heading back to Drysdale.
