Joe Hailey Memorial Stage Race Langley BC

The inaugural Joe Hailey Memorial Stage Race is run in honour and recognition of long time local racer Joe Hailey who died tragically as a result of injuries sustained in a crash during a road race in March of 2002. This stage race will be an omnium points event. Riders can enter one or all three stages but to be considered for the overall a rider must do all three stages. Each stage will cost $15 or $40 for all three. If you do not have a series number there is an additional $5 charge.

Saturday Mar 29 RR starts at 10:30 at normal spot near corner of 232nd St and 6th Ave.

Sunday Mar 30 Criterium will be first event at Gloucester Industrial Park with 10:30 for the C's, 11:15 for the B's, 12:30 for the A's. TT will start at 2:30 on River Road at 256th St. with the C's followed by the B's then the A's with no break in between. It will be at 30 second intervals so if we have 100 riders the whole thing will be done in a little over an hour. Start and parking for the TT is the exact same spot as the River Road race courses. Burnaby Velodrome Club President, Ted Ritter, earns Volunteer of the Year Award

Having put countless hours into volunteering, organizing races, and helping guide what is perhaps BC's largest road club, Escape Velocity, Ted Ritter has been named the Volunteer of the Year at the 37th Annual Sport BC Awards.

Ted's involvement in cycling stems back 12 years, where he was involved in the inception of the Escape Velocity Club. Within his time with Escape Velocity, Ted spearheaded the BC Classic, BC's largest stage race, with 6 races over 4 days and 5 locations around the lower mainland.

Ted is an accomplished cyclist himself, securing National Championship medals in both road and track disciplines, and clinching the National Championship (Masters) title itself in 2002.

Recently, Ted has played a key role in the fight to keep the Burnaby Velodrome open to cyclists, and is currently the President of the newly formed Burnaby Velodrome Cycling Club.

Above all, Ted has been, and continues to be an outstanding role model for up and coming racers, always willing, and usually able to help others in whatever means necessary.


Spring Training Camp in Dieppe

The Atlantic Cycling Centre in Dieppe NB, will be hosting a training camp starting on April 18th, 2003. Deadline for applications to attend is April 15.

Open to (Primarily) - Elite athletes, potential selection athletes, other high level athletes

Group Health Seattle to Portland Bicycle Classic

The 24th annual Cascade Classic, will start under a new name with the addition of a first ever major sponsor: Group Health. The Cascade Classic will become The Group Health Seattle to Portland Bicycle Classic.

The Group Health STP begins on Saturday, July 12, 2003 at 4:45 a.m. at the University of Washington in Seattle and ends at Holladay Park in Portland, Oregon - a distance of 206 miles. Up to 8,000 riders will participate in the two-day event, with an estimated 16,000 supporters expected at the finish line festival.
