MTB First Aid Course at Hilton Report

You missed it.

It was awesome.

6 MAMBO Kings, a wanna-be, and a guest from GORBA, all took part in an excellent Outdoor First Care course last weekend.

The course was conducted by Jan Murdoch, a National Ski Patrol certified instructor, who tailored the First Aid course to create realistic scenarios for mountain bike injuries. Jan has plenty of real-world experience, so even Kieran's broken back story did not put her off her stride. We practiced all sorts of victim stabilization and rescue techniques. If you have any kind of medical or injury problem while at a MAMBO attended event, we'll be able to help you, at least until Jan or one of her highly qualified associates can get to you.

In the spirit of Oscar week, we have a few folks to thank: Ed Zacharewski for finding Jan and putting us in touch, Jan for her patience and excellent instruction, Vanessa Seto and also Mark Gehr for his behind the scenes work to make it all work out.

Our first event for 2003 is this Sunday (April 6th), at Hilton Falls conservation area. MAMBO Kings MTB patrol will be volunteering as course marshals at the Hilton Falls All Weather MTB Time Trial. This is a great opportunity to see how poor your cardio-fitness has gotten while you were riding the couch instead of your bike this winter. See www.wowmtb.com for details, and we'll see you there!

The National MTB Patrol program (NMBP) is an IMBA program, dedicated to providing assistance education and information to the whole community of trail users, including mountain bikers, land managers, and other trail users. MAMBO Kings MTB Patrol is a member of the NMBP. Our main areas of activity are in the Greater Toronto Area, including Halton Region public lands, such as Hilton Falls and Kelso Conservation areas. If you are interested in learning more about this patrol group, or about starting one in your local area, please contact us at www.mambokings.org
