Here is The West Indies vs the World cycling series in Trinidad,Tobago and Barbados update for all those wondering...

The only thing slower than Keith's riding here at the West Indies vs the World cycling series is his typing, since his arm is in a sling and he is unable to get on his bike. While there are no style points to be earned in cycling, from my perspective Keith would have 9.9's across the board from his attempt at the triple back flip after torpedoing the Swiss rider in the keirin. Therefore I am going to send in my perspective of things while he heals.

Last year the World beat up on the West Indies, so to make up for that the organizers have decided to include Cuba as temporary members of that chain of islands. Since this team has come fresh off high World Cup placings, they have been helping the West Indies dominate the series. In most races they are taking all the podium spots, however, there are a few breakthroughs that stop the domination. Both Alex (Cloutier) and I have managed podium placings. Alex managed a third in an unknown distance race in a bunch sprint that was super sketchy.

I am finding myself in the moves but I am always outnumbered so I have resorted to attacking them as much as I can. It has landed me just off the podium more than a few times and has impressed afew people down here.So there you go, Canada has a couple of top-5 placings, a couple of breaks that got caught in the last lap and are definitely not getting rich but are getting faster and maybe a little sun burnt too.

Mr. Vittorio Adorni, President of the Professional Cycling Council, met today (April 26, 2003) in Brussels with the Presidents of the PCA, Mr. Francesco Moser, the AIOCC, Mr. Jean-Marie Leblanc, and the AIGCP Mr. Manolo Saiz.

During this work meeting, which was also attended by the President of the International Cycling Union Mr. Hein Verbruggen, the Presidents of the Associations particularly discussed professional cycling‚s reform and making the wearing of helmets by professionals obligatory.

Concerning the future of the professional cycling, the creation of a system guaranteeing the stability and economic continuity of the movement, based on a principal of a series of competitions reserved to the best teams, was evoked.

Details and deadlines of this option are still to be decided, and therefore the PCC will take care of ensuring the development and follow-up in the coming months.

The Presidents of the Associations then confirmed their adhesion to the UCI‚s initiative which is to render mandatory helmets for professional riders.

The consensus as expressed today by the members of the PCC present in the meeting should enable their reach the goal - which is to establish this rule before the start of the next Giro d‚Italia.
