Fiona Morrow to Leave CCA

Rose Mercier, Acting Director General of the Canadian Cycling Association today announced that Fiona Morrow, CCA's Marketing & Communications Coordinator for the past 2+ years has resigned from her position, effective May 30, 2003.

Fiona has been instrumental in a number of areas - providing exceptional sponsor liaison and service, maintaining CCA's constantly changing web site and lending her talents and time to the CCA's on-site office team at the national championships.

Fiona joined the CCA in January 2001 from the Ottawa-Carleton Soccer League. She graduated with an MA in Sport Administration from the University of Ottawa.

Fiona is off to explore new professional challenges and opportunities in the area of communications and marketing.

We will miss her tremendously. We wish her all the best of luck and thank her for her contribution.


Chin Picnic Criterium

For many years, the annual Canada Day Criterium, held in conjunction with CHIN Radio's Picnic on the CNE grounds, proved to be the most popular bicycle race in Ontario, with bigger fields than any other road event on the calendar.

In recent years both riders and spectators have really missed this great competition, so the Midweek Cycling Club has obtained a sanction to re institute the race for 2003.

This year is an ideal one for the reintroduction of the Canada Day Criterium as Ontario is hosting the World Road Championships in Hamilton and our national championships are being held on the world's circuit the week before the proposed event at CNE.

Since the nationals are open to foreign riders this year, there should be entries from Europe and the USA, as well many of the top Canadian competitors. This should produce the best-ever field for the CHIN races.

There will be events for cadets, juniors, masters' categories, senior 3 and a women's event featuring some of the top female riders in the country. The final showcase race will be a one hundred kilometer pro-am spectacle featuring an international field, with the winner covering the distance in just over two hours!

Where host Romeo Alberici will treat you to the experience of a lifetime!

All events will use a 1.05 kilometer loop running right through the centre of the CHIN Picnic. This will enable the large crowd to get right up close to the action and literally feel the wind as the colourful, exciting groups speed past every minute or so.

Plan to get there early and pick a good vantage point to see all the action.
