Sad News
It is with great sadness we report the passing of William Wenting in his 80th year. He passed way after a lengthy illness in the comfort of his home supported by his wife of 44 years Margaret (Peg).
Bill, as he was known, was well known in the sporting community as a supporter of cycling, speed skating and rugby.
Any cyclist who ever did a 0 ave Time Trial met Bill ever so briefly as they did the turn around. Bill formed the idea of time trial event in 1978 and personally measured the couse with a 100 meter survey chain to ensure accuracy. Time trials were held every second Thursday night for the next 20 years with Bill taking the lonely and often boring job of marshalling the turn.
Many aspiring riders found their way to races as his guest and some still tell stories of memorable pre-race breakfasts.
He was until recently the President of Wentings‚ Cycles Ltd in Mission guiding the growth of a family business until his retirement. The store grew from 650 square feet in 1978 to 5500 square feet today.
Bill is survived by his wife, Peg, sons Don, Bruce and Jim, 6 grand daughters and 1 grandson.
He is predeceased by his oldest son Doug.
A memorial service is planned for later next week.
