Canadian World Cup Result

We have a Canadian result from the Downhill World Cup in Nevegal, Italy this past weekend. David Watson (Rocky Mountain) was 27th, with a time of 6:00.75 - 33.41 seconds behind winner Cedric Gracia (Sunn). There were no Canadian women at the event. World Cup standings to follow later this evening.


Iron Horse

Arizona-based Canadian Scott Price took second place on the weekend in the Iron Horse Bicycle Classic road race.

An Unknown Canadian

This e-mail came to us from CCA Competitions Coordinator Brett Stewart.

The reason I am writing concerns a topic that may be of interest to the readers of Canadian Cyclist Mag.

Did you know that Canadian Master category rider TED INGRAM is leading the unofficial World Cup Cross-Country series for Masters. I say unofficial because UCI does not maintain an official ranking for these athletes.

Ted is 33 years old and is originally from Newfoundland. He has no sponsors and is completely self-funded. He puts everything into his pursuit of cycling. Last year Ted finished a strong 13th at the World Master Challenge in Chateau D'oex Switzerland.

This season Ted has posted excellent early season results at Cactus Cup and Sea Otter. On the World Cup circuit he has posted results of 4th at Napa Valley, 2nd at St. Wendel, Germany, and 1st at Plymouth, Great Britain. If Ted were Alison Sydor the media would be all over these results.

My angle is that here is a guy who is as dedicated to cycling as any of our pro-elite athletes, yet he gets no coverage because no one really seems to care about how Vets do. We are interested in Juniors because they still have potential and are the next generation of Elite riders. We are interested in Elite riders because they are the most competitive group. But no one seems to give a hoot about how our Vets do.

These athletes deserve a little respect and recognition. There is a large population of Vets out in cycling community and they contribute a significant amount in terms of membership numbers, dollars, and experience. This year alone Canada could qualify a maximum of 480 Master athletes to compete in the World Master Challenge at Mont St-Anne, Quebec.

All of these athletes will be self-funded at Mont St-Anne. There is no funding support available for Vets/Masters because they do not qualify (under government funding criteria).

Wind-Del Track Update

The repairs to the Wind-Del Track are still incomplete and the facility will remain closed through this coming weekend. We will advise as soon as the track can be ridden.

Some of you have been down and looked at the work. We have had all sorts of reports and complaints back. Please rest assured that what you are looking at is not the finished article. There are still processes to be carried out that will make the repairs look like a silk purse. Don't get alarmed. The track is in good hands.
