Hamilton Commonwealth Games Bid to Include Track Cycling

The revised bid proposal being put forward by the group attempting to bring the 2010 Commonwealth Games to Hamilton, now includes a track and a track program.

The proposal is for the following:

Velodrome at Morgan Firestone Sport Centre
Location
• 385 Jerseyville Road West, Ancaster (Hamilton)
• 9-kilometre/14-minute drive from the Athletes Village
• 13-kilometre/20-minute drive from City Centre Facility
• 250-metre cycling track with 50-metre straightaways and banking to ensure high racing speed
• Wood surface on temporary wood structure
• Temporary seating for 2,000 spectators
• Change rooms and support facilities at the adjacent Sport Centre

The location for the road race and ITT follows almost the identical course for the 2003 Road World Championships, with the start finish in downtown Hamilton.


Final Tour Teams Announced

The confirmed teams for 2003 TDF announced June 2 squelched ANY possibilities or rumours that World Champion Mario Cipollini and his Domina Vacanze would be allowed as a 23rd team. The 22 teams previously announced will be the final teams with no possibility of any additions or changes.
