Results

We had an incredible three days of racing with some of the top riders in North America including Jennie Reed (Seattle),Cam MacKinnon and Laura Yoisten from Calgary, Breanna Loster from Victoria, Mandy Poitras (Vancouver), Josh Weir (Indianna), Annette Hanson (Seattle), and Kenny the "cash register" Williams (Seattle) who dominated almost all Senior and Master events. Everyone was racing for points in the series and $5000 cash plus merchandise.

It was an extremely successful weekend, thanks to all of the volunteers and sponsors. We could not have done this without you. I would also like to thank the Team Rubicon from Oregon, who came up and raced on behalf of the Lance Armstrong Foundation, as they always do. And thanks also to the Cops for Cancer "Tour de Rock" riders for appearing at our race.

Note: Our thoughts are with a special member and supporter of our cycling community in Victoria. Dr. Wayne Walker. Wayne's partner Maggie Hofer is battling cancer as you read this. If you would, please give a moments thought to what Cancer has done to the people you love, and wish Maggie peace. MAGGIE, thank you for loving our friend. He has had a smile on his face since he met you.

This race will happen again next year, everyone is invited. There will be $10,000 cash prize list.


Madison Cup July 11,2003 in Trexlertown PA

The madison went well. We yo-yoed up and down the classifications all night until we started to race for money instead of points. Money over fame...such a hard decision for me...but since I am about as big of a star as I could possibly be we decided to take the money and run. This even helped us move up as high as 4th in points leading into the lasty laps before the final sprint. At this point we made a decision to go for a couple of 100 dollar primes. At the end of the 150laps we finished sixth out of 15 teams but with more money than all but the top three. Prime alliance, Navigators and Jittery Joes/ Saturn Development pro teams took the podium spots.

Ontario Track Team Report

After competing at the Road Nationals the end of June and racing at the CHIN Picnic criterium on July 1st, six members of the Ontario Track Team packed up their bikes for a seven-day training camp from July 3-10 at the Bromont Velodrome.  The Bromont Velodrome is the former Atlanta Olympic track and it's always a pleasure to train or race at such a quality facility.  Experienced racers Julia Bradley, Michelle Perrier-Martinen, Chris Reid and Shelly Christensen were joined by relative newcomer Amy Maher and first-year cadet Meaghan Csikos at the camp.

The July 5-6 weekend of the camp coincided with the Quebec Provincial Track Championships.  Non-Quebec riders were invited to compete but could not be declared Quebec Champions.  The championships were a good preview for the National Track Championships that will be held in August at Bromont.  Besides a large field of Quebec riders, there were riders from Ontario, Manitoba, Alberta, and New Brunswick.

Good performances were turned in by Team Ontario riders.  Julia Bradley placed first in the Elite Women's 500 m.  She missed first in the Points Race by one point placing second to Canadian National Points Race Champion Erin Carter.  Bradley was also second to Carter in the 3000 m pursuit.  In the women's Team Sprint, the Ontario Team of Amy Maher, Michelle Perrier-Martinen and Julia Bradley bested Quebec's Équipe Record.  Up until recently, the Team Sprint has only been competed in by men's teams.  Maher, Perrier-Martinen and Bradley are hoping to have a chance to medal in the Team Sprint at the Track Nationals.

On Thursday, June 10th at the Bromont Série sous les étoiles, Chris Reid rode an aggressive Elimination Race rolling off the front after the first elimination sprint to stay away from the pack until late in the race when a charging Ryan McKenzie pulled what remained of the pack up to him.  For his solo efforts, Chris was rewarded with a fifth place in a big field of over twenty riders.

After the camp at Bromont, several of the Team Ontario riders traveled to the Ottawa Bicycle Club's Grand Prix in the Gatineau Hills on July 12th.  The course was even more challenging then usual because a steady rain made the roads very slippery.  Amy Maher rode a strong race and finished third in the Senior Women's 3/4 race.  Julia Bradley was tenth in the Senior Women's 1/2 race.  Chris Reid rode a strong race in the Senior Men's event finishing 25th in a race that saw a large portion of the entrants abandon before the race ended.
