Sun Peaks Canada Cup Cancelled

The Canada Cup Mountain Bike Finals at Sun Peaks Resort scheduled for August 9 & 10 have been cancelled due to the wildfire conditions in the area.

Currently there is a 1 hour evacuation alert in effect and vehicle access is restricted into the area to permit holders only. This is combined with a general access ban to all recreational areas in the district due to the extremely dry and volatile conditions. There is no relief forecast in the weather even in long range forecasts. It is highly unlikely that this situation will change before this weekend so organizers in consultation with Canadian Cycling Association have had to make the difficult decision to cancel the event.

We thank the volunteers and staff who have worked so hard to get this venue ready for the event. We especially thank the first aid personnel who were willing to try to fit this event into the little free time that they would have had due to their emergency services commitments.
